Quabbin announces Hall class

Quabbin Regional will induct its third Hall of Fame class — five athletes and one coach — during Homecoming weekend on Oct. 17.

The honorees include: Joe Orszulak (Class of 1980), who was drafted by the Yankees and spent time in New York’s farm system before arm injuries curtailed his career and Drew Stratton (’83), who pitched at Princeton University and was drafted in the sixth round by the Oakland Athletics, playing four years in minors.
Also, Jon Panaccione (’82), a cross country runner, who won every league race for three seasons, including consecutive Wachusett and Lunenburg Invitationals; Christine “Cricket” (Hardaker) Haley (’92), among the all-time leading scorers in Quabbin field hockey history with 61 goals and 34 assists; Melissa Shamgochian (’97), who received 12 varsity letters in field hockey, basketball and softball; and Fran Cranston (’75), who coached the school’s wrestling team for 28 years, posting a winning percentage of .790.
